RECLINER / LIFT CHAIR REPAIR

Power recliners are very popular today- practically gone are the old La-Z-Boy type recliners with the handle on the side. Power mechanisms are very convenient, especially for ageing people who lack the strength to rotate a handle that is located way down on the bottom side of a recliner… but there are issues with these modern wonders as well.

These light duty recliners electronics malfunction quite often and need to be reset or replaced.

Power surges will fry the power cord’s inverter. This black box is located on the power cord. If there has been a power surge during a thunder storm, and there is no power to your chair- this may need to be ordered from the retailer, or Amazon. They are DIY and plug-and-play.

If there is a green light on the inverter box, but the lift is not working:

  • Call your retailer for a service visit. This is usually included as a warranty and will be at no cost.
  • Turn the chair upside down and trace the electrical wires to make sure they were not cut by the scissor mechanism. Loose wires sometimes get cut, but can be spliced back together.
  • The lift motor itself may be defective, but can be ordered as a part and replaced by a service technician. Call the retailer.
  • Finally, if all things check out, just unplug the unit for 2 minutes. This will cause a hard reset. Many times, this is all a unit needs to start working again.

Always use a surge protector with electric recliners.
